WTF : Rainbow Eucalyptus - Pokok Berwarna Pelangi (8 Gambar)

Pohon ini dinamakan Pokok Pelangi atau nama saintifiknya Rainbow Eucalyptus dan ia juga umumnya dikenali sebagai Eucalyptus Deglupta, Gum Mindanao, atau Gum Rainbow. Pokok ini boleh dijumpai tumbuh meliar di New Britain, New Guinea, Ceram, Sulawesi dan Mindanao. Rainbow Eucalyptus, adalah sejenis pohon kayu putih yang boleh tumbuh sehingga mencapai ketinggian 70 meter. Pokok ini sedang ditanam secara meluas di seluruh dunia, terutamanya untuk digunakan dalam industri pembuatan kertas dan permbuatan produk kayu.

Rahsia Pokok Pelangi Rainbow Eucalyptus ini yang kelihatan berwarna warni ini sebenarnya cukup mudah. Ia terjadi kerana melalui proses penggantian kulit pokok. Kulit pokok ini setiap tahun akan menjalani proses penggantian kulit yang baru setiap masa, tetapi proses penggantian itu tidak terjadi secara total sebaliknya secara berperingkat mengikut area - area tertentu.

Sebagai contohnya penggantian kulit yang pertama akan menghasilkan warna kehijauan, lalu penggantian kulit kedua yang berwarna hijau akan berubah menjadi kebiruan kemudian oren, ungu dan merah. Proses yang terjadi secara berperingkat pada bahagian - bahagian tertentu batang pokok inilah yang telah menciptakan efek pelangi yang membuatkan pohon-pohon ini kelihatan berwarna warni seperti pelangi sehingga ia dinamakan Pohon Pelangi di dalam Bahasa Melayunya.
